About 40,000 Duke Energy customers across Clermont County lost power Aug. 11, after severe thunderstorms tore through the region. That's roughly four times the approximately 10,000 customers who lost power during the July 21 tornado, as we reported at the time.

Duke Energy said full restoration could take 24 hours or longer.

The Milford Community Fire Department issued safety warnings Tuesday, citing Duke Energy, urging residents not to touch or drive over downed utility wires. The department warned that lines can remain live even when they show no visible signs of being energized.

Duke Energy recommends anyone who encounters a downed line stay at least 30 feet away and treat all lines, along with any trees, limbs or fences in contact with them, as energized and dangerous.

McMann Road closed near Loveland

The Clermont County Engineer's Office announced on X Tuesday afternoon that McMann Road near 4032 McMann Rd. was closed due to low-hanging electric wires across the roadway.

"Please avoid the area and use an alternate route until the road is reopened," the office posted.

The road will remain closed until Duke Energy can address the wires. As of Wednesday morning, no reopening confirmation had been posted.

Flood watch through Wednesday

A flood watch issued by the National Weather Service in Wilmington remained in effect for Clermont County through Wednesday morning, Aug. 12. The NWS said flooding was possible from heavy rain filling creeks, ditches, streams and small rivers, though the Ohio River was not forecast to reach flood stage.

Forecasters warned of intense downpours of about two inches per hour and strong winds Tuesday, with some spots in Greater Cincinnati expected to pick up 3 to 6 inches of rain from Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday evening, according to WLWT.

As we reported Tuesday, the flood watch also put the Little Miami Trail and Nisbet Park at risk.

Wider storm damage

Tuesday's storms also brought down a tree that closed a stretch of Concord-Hennings Mill Road. Goshen Township opened a shelter for displaced residents, and Batavia canceled its Music on Main concert because of the storm risk, according to the Clermont Guardian.
