Sycamore High School students will have a new face in the front office when classes resume Aug. 14. The district announced Tuesday that Bret Mustain, a 15-year educator with a background in math instruction and department leadership, will serve as the school's new assistant principal for the 2026-27 school year.

Mustain has spent his career as a high school math teacher, department chair, advisor and coach. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from The Ohio State University and a Master of Education from Xavier University.

His previous employer was not named in the district's announcement.

Sycamore Community Schools said Mustain has remained dedicated across every role to helping students and staff reach their potential. Outside of school, he enjoys cycling, backpacking, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

Part of a broader leadership shakeup

The hire is not happening in isolation. Mustain's appointment rounds out a wave of administrative changes across the district heading into the new school year. At its July 8 meeting, the Sycamore Board of Education approved five other leadership appointments, including Natalie Jimenez as Director of Curriculum and Instruction for grades K-6, Angela Faulhaber as Director of Curriculum and Instruction for grades 7-12, Danielle Gray as principal of Blue Ash Elementary, Natalie Moss as interim assistant principal at Maple Dale Elementary and Taryn Barker as Director of Special Education for grades 7-12.

Sycamore High School serves roughly 1,678 students in grades 9-12. The district enrolls about 6,051 students across seven schools and serves part of Symmes Township.
