The Bootsy Collins Foundation will host a Purple Party on Saturday, Oct. 17, at MainStreet Social Bar and Bites in Milford to mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The event runs from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at 18 Main Street. The foundation is based in Cincinnati.
Patti Collins, founder of the Bootsy Collins Foundation and a domestic violence survivor, appeared on WLWT on Tuesday, Oct. 6, alongside Andrea Langefeld, her co-host on the "Is Anybody Out There?" podcast, to promote the event. Collins leads the nonprofit with her husband, funk legend Bootsy Collins, and their daughter Summer.
Collins and Langefeld co-host "Is Anybody Out There?", a podcast produced by The Bootsy Collins Network and supported by Women Helping Women and the Center for Survivor Agency & Justice. The show explores how domestic violence reshapes the brain and how communities, counselors and loved ones can better support survivors' recovery.
On the Jan. 2 episode of the podcast, Collins spoke about the foundation's broader mission. "As a survivor I believe in Dr. La Guardia's mission of breaking down the science of trauma, the emotional fallout of coercive control, and the healing that becomes possible when survivors finally have compassion-centered, collaborative care," she said.
The Purple Party follows the foundation's Thursday, Oct. 1, kickoff at Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati, where the fountain was lit purple for the month. That event, held in partnership with Women Helping Women, included a candle lighting in memory of those lost to domestic violence, music and hot chocolate from Graeter's.
Details about which organizations will be present at the Oct. 17 event in Milford have not been announced. More information is available at bootsycollinsfoundation.org.
