Drivers on Fields-Ertel Road through Symmes Township will move onto freshly built pavement August 3, ending two months of one-way restrictions along the busy corridor near Interstate 71.
The traffic switch marks a milestone in a joint Hamilton County–Warren County road reconstruction that will ultimately widen Fields-Ertel to five lanes with sidewalks between Snider Road and Wilkens Boulevard.
Two separate switches will take effect Monday, weather permitting, according to Dominic Brigano, bridge engineer with the Warren County Engineer's Office:
Cross Pond Drive to Snider Road: Traffic moves to the newly constructed roadway. Two-way travel will be restored on this segment, which has been limited to eastbound-only since June 1.
Snider Road to Wilkens Boulevard: Traffic shifts to the center of the new roadway so crews can continue construction on the north and south edges. Two-way traffic will remain in effect.
All driveway and subdivision access along the corridor will stay open during the switch, according to Deerfield Township's announcement.
What drivers should know
Since June 1, Snider Road from Fields-Ertel to Cross Meadow Drive has been restricted to northbound traffic only, and Fields-Ertel from Cross Pond to Snider has been eastbound only. Monday's switch restores two-way flow on those segments.
The detour ends Monday. Drivers heading southbound on Snider Road and westbound on Fields-Ertel have been routed through Butler-Warren Road, Irwin-Simpson Road, and back to Snider Road since the restrictions began.
What's being built
The project spans Fields-Ertel Road from Cross Pond Drive to Escort Drive, Snider Road from Pinecove Court to Cross Meadow Drive, and Wilkens Boulevard from Fields-Ertel Road to Passport Drive. The work includes full-depth pavement replacement, new storm sewers, extended culverts, and intersection improvements at Snider Road and Wilkens Boulevard, according to the Hamilton County Engineer's 2025 annual report.
The John R. Jurgensen Company holds both construction contracts. The Warren County portion was bid at $18,611,588.44; the Hamilton County portion at $21,074,365.68. Funding comes from a mix of federal Surface Transportation Block Grant dollars, an OKI grant of $5.94 million, Ohio Public Works Commission grants, and local contributions from Symmes Township Trustees, Deerfield Township Trustees, and both county engineer offices.
Symmes Township posted the Warren County Engineer's press release on May 18 and issued a separate Snider Road update on July 10.
Construction on the north and south sides of the Snider-to-Wilkens segment continues after Monday's switch, and no completion date for the full project has been announced.
