The Milford school board cut the AP Studio Art fee in half and adopted three new student policies at its Thursday, Sept. 17, meeting.

The Milford Board of Education voted 4-0 on all four measures, according to board minutes posted on BoardDocs. Board member Mary Anne Will was absent.

The adopted policies are JHCD, covering the administration of medicine to students; JEDA, addressing truancy; and EDEB, establishing a Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) program. Board member Michael Wilson made the motion, and Emily Chesnut seconded it.

The full text of the three policies has not been made publicly available through the district's minutes. The district has not specified which grade levels or buildings the BYOT program covers.

In a separate 4-0 vote, the board reduced the AP Studio Art fee from $200 to $99 for the 2026-2027 school year. Wilson made that motion, with Myra Powers seconding.

The board also approved two retirements. Laurie Leon, a teacher at Mulberry Elementary School, will retire June 1, 2027, after 38 years of service. Dorothy Parker, a teacher aide at Pattison Elementary School, will retire Nov. 1, 2026, after 26 years.

As we reported Sept. 21, the same meeting featured Superintendent Dr. Bobbie Fiori's presentation of Milford's improved Ohio Report Card score and a tribute to longtime educator Shane Ferguson.

Treasurer Doug Ackermann told the board the district's Five-Year Forecast projects roughly $1.5 million in deficit spending for fiscal year 2027, according to the district's board recap. That would reduce the district's beginning cash balance of about $32 million to around $30 million. General fund appropriations approved at the meeting were about $5 million lower than the previous year.

Nine certified staff members received salary upgrades at the meeting, reflecting advanced degrees or additional coursework. The district also approved a $5,400 contract with Renzulli Learning for curriculum services and a professional development agreement with Best Point at $1,850 per person for special education staff.

The board's next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 15.
