Veterans and active-duty service members can ride Metro buses for free on Nov. 11.

The regional transit agency announced Oct. 28 that all Metro fixed-route buses and Access paratransit services will be fare-free on Veterans Day for veterans, active-duty personnel, reservists and National Guard members. Metro will run its regular weekday schedule that day.

Riders need to show proof of service when boarding. Accepted forms of identification include:

  • A U.S. Department of Defense-issued military ID card
  • A Veterans Affairs ID card
  • A state-issued driver's license with a veteran designation
  • A Metro Veterans Program (MVP) card

Brandy Jones, Metro's chief communications and marketing officer, said the free rides continue a tradition of honoring service members. "Offering free rides on Veterans Day is one way we can show our appreciation while helping them connect with the people, places and events that matter to them," Jones said in the announcement.

Year-round discounts through the MVP program

Veterans seeking free transportation to VA medical appointments should contact the Hamilton County Veterans Service Commission at 513-946-3300 for information about obtaining passes.

To apply for an MVP card, eligible applicants should bring a completed application, a current state-issued photo ID showing their date of birth, and qualifying proof of service to the Metro Fare Deal Office at 7000 Montgomery Road in Silverton.
