Downtown Milford will fill with German-style beer, live music and a chicken dance Saturday when Oktoberfest returns with a two-site celebration stretching from morning to night along the Mill Street corridor.

Little Miami Brewing Company, at 208 Mill St., will host its portion of the festival from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Aug. 15. Three bands will rotate through the day: Fully Furnished from noon to 2 p.m., Eastside Roots from 3 to 5:30 p.m. and Zinzinnati Bierband from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Hannah Green will emcee.

A block away, the Kiwanis Club of Milford will run Das Kiwanisfest at Five Points Landing Park from 4 to 10 p.m. That event includes a Kids Zone with games and face painting, an adult stein slide game, a steinholding competition and a chicken dance at 6 p.m., according to the Clermont Guardian. The brewery said on its X account that the steinholding competition and chicken dance will be led by Ken Broo & Friends.

Admission to the brewery is free.

Entry to Five Points Landing Park supports the Kiwanis Club's local programs, though organizers have not published a specific ticket price. The city of Milford's events calendar lists Das Kiwanisfest and describes it as featuring live music, a community dinner, public art, local history and friendly competitions.

The brewery is selling a $10 souvenir Oktoberfest mug that includes a beer fill and larger pours throughout the day, according to the brewery's Instagram page. Little Miami Brewing also brewed a house Märzen for the occasion, describing it as a classic style made with Munich malt and German hops with a malty, bread-like aroma.

The festival is not new to Milford. Co-founder Dan Lynch told the Milford Planning Commission in December 2019 that the brewery itself initiated Oktoberfest as one of its community events. At that meeting, Lynch said the brewery had created over 50 jobs with more than $1 million in annual payroll.

"The river district has become a true destination spot," Lynch said at the December 2019 meeting.

Both festival locations sit within Milford's Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, which the city expanded in March to cover 16 permit holders across downtown, according to city records. That means festival-goers can carry drinks between participating businesses in the district.
