Symmes Township residents will get a public look at the township's finances when the Finance and Audit Committee meets at 6 p.m. Aug. 26, at the Administration Building Meeting Room, 9323 Union Cemetery Rd., according to the township calendar.

The quarterly committee reviews the township's books and makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees on budgets and levies. The Aug. 26 session comes as the township heads into fall budget season, with two trustees meetings already scheduled for September.

No agenda has been posted.

At its most recent session on Oct. 1, 2025, the committee reviewed the 2023-2024 audit and the current budget, according to a township notice. A May 9 meeting earlier that year covered committee by-laws and cost-saving measures.

The committee's oversight role carries weight. A 2019 state audit found the township had accrued $33,182 in late fees over four years, and a subsequent review covering 2019 through 2023 found another $7,202.93 in penalties and interest. The township's most recent publicly available audit, for fiscal year 2022, showed $12.35 million in total cash receipts and fund balances of $15.55 million.

Voters on Nov. 4, 2025, approved two levies that feed into the township's revenue picture: a 0.75-mill roads and sidewalks levy and a 4.10-mill police, fire and EMS renewal. The roads levy costs homeowners about $22 per year per $100,000 of home value; the public safety levy runs $94.

Fiscal Officer Joseph C. Grossi oversees the township's day-to-day finances. The township has not responded to a request for comment on what topics the committee will take up Aug. 26.
