No. 5 Anderson buried Milford 58-14 at Eagle Stadium on Friday, Sept. 25. The loss is Milford's fourth straight and extends Anderson's Eastern Cincinnati Conference winning streak to 29 games.
Anderson quarterback Owen Scalf shredded Milford's defense, completing 26 of 30 passes for 433 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. Wide receiver Jordan Davis hauled in eight catches for 177 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. Anderson piled up 469 passing yards as a team.
Milford sophomore quarterback Aiden Wehrum connected with receiver Godsey for one of the Eagles' two touchdowns, with kicker Egbert adding the extra point, according to a Milford Athletics game update on X. Wehrum entered the game with an ECC-leading 16 touchdown passes and 1,321 passing yards on the season, per the Clermont Sun's pregame preview.
The Eagles had no answer for Anderson's passing attack.
The loss drops Milford to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the ECC. The Eagles had already allowed 379 yards per game entering Friday, the most in the conference. Head coach Tom Grippa, in his 10th year leading the program, faces a three-game run against the ECC's top teams, per the Clermont Sun. The Anderson game opened that stretch.
Anderson improved to 5-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play, keeping a one-game lead over Lebanon in the ECC standings, according to WLWT.
Sycamore shut out by No. 9 Middletown
Sycamore lost for the sixth straight week on Friday, Sept. 25. No. 9 Middletown blanked the Aviators 41-0 in a Greater Miami Conference game.
Middletown quarterback Gavin Nolan threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns and added a rushing score, per the Enquirer. The Dayton Daily News reported it was only the third time in Middletown's past 70 games that the Middies had scored more than 40 points.
The shutout follows a 42-19 loss to Fairfield in Week 5 and a 56-7 defeat to Princeton in Week 4.
Playoff picture
With the OHSAA playoffs set to begin Oct. 30, both Milford and Sycamore face uphill climbs. Milford's remaining ECC schedule features the conference's strongest opponents. Sycamore has been outscored 139-26 over its last three games.
