A Loveland nonprofit founded after the loss of a 19-year-old to suicide is hosting a designer purse bingo fundraiser at the American Legion on November 14, with all proceeds supporting youth mental health programs in local schools.
The Ben Morrison Memorial Fund's "Bingo, Bags & Bubbly" event opens doors at 2 p.m. at 897 Oakland Road, with bingo starting at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $50 in advance or $60 at the door and include three bingo cards for 16 games, light bites, and a glass of bubbly, according to the fund's Facebook page. A cash bar, 50/50 raffle, pull tabs, and extra bingo cards for select games round out the afternoon.
The event is 21-and-over. Groups can reserve a table for eight, and smaller groups are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis.
A Loveland family's mission
The Morrison family started the fund after their son Ben, a 2020 Loveland High School graduate and Tigers football and lacrosse player, died by suicide in March 2021. On the organization's website, the founders wrote that they "decided to not be quiet" and that helping even one person or one family would make their efforts worth it.
The fund has invested more than $50,000 in the community through outreach, scholarships, and mental health advocacy, according to its Cincinnati Gives fundraising profile. It has awarded 41 scholarships totaling $41,500 to Loveland High School seniors and sponsored more than 50 awareness events reaching 75,000-plus people.
The fund's Ben's Way kindness initiative operates in 12 schools across eight districts, recognizing students for positive actions. More than 1,390 students and 300 teachers and staff have participated in the program, according to the same profile.
