Fathers in Clermont County now have access to free parenting classes, legal help and job placement assistance through a state-funded program that previously served only Hamilton County families.

Talbert House, a Cincinnati nonprofit that has operated in the region since 1965, was selected by the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood to bring its Fatherhood Project into Clermont County, the Clermont Guardian reported on Aug. 14. The Clermont County Board of Developmental Disabilities shared the announcement on Facebook the same day, though the board did not detail its own role in the program.

The expansion means dads in Loveland, Milford, Symmes Township and surrounding communities can enroll in services that have graduated more than 2,000 fathers in Hamilton County since 2008.

What the program offers

The Fatherhood Project's centerpiece is the Nurturing Fathers Program, a 10-week curriculum covering child development, discipline techniques, family law and strategies for overcoming barriers to effective parenting.

Beyond the classes, fathers can access:

  • Co-parenting coaching — structured sessions focused on communication, conflict reduction and boundary-setting (not therapy)
  • One-on-one coaching tailored to each father's circumstances
  • Legal services support for navigating family court, child support and custody matters
  • Employment services including career coaching, resume help, interview prep and job placement

All services are free.

State funding behind the expansion

Ohio's 2025 budget included $20 million for the Commission on Fatherhood's Responsible Fatherhood Initiative, a dramatic jump from the prior $2.5 million. Senate President Rob McColley, R-Napoleon, championed the funding increase at a June 18, 2025, press conference that included former Ohio State football captain Kamryn Babb and former NFL player Jack Brewer.

The state grants portal shows the initiative awards $150,000 per county per fiscal year across 12 counties, with the current project period running Jan. 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027.

Talbert House said on its Facebook page that the Fatherhood Project is now serving Butler, Clermont and Warren counties alongside Hamilton County. The organization is also preparing to extend the program into Brown, Clinton, Highland and Preble counties.
