The Milford Exempted Village School District opens its 2026-27 school year Aug. 17, sending roughly half of its K-12 students through the doors on day one as part of a three-day staggered start across all 10 schools.

The other half reports Aug. 18. All students come together for the first time Aug. 19. Students at Milford Academy are the exception and do not follow the staggered schedule.

Preschoolers start Wednesday, Aug. 19. The district relocated its preschool program to Mulberry and Pattison elementary schools for this year, and the extra day gives staff time to establish arrival routines at the new locations, according to the district's calendar.

The opening marks the first full school year under superintendent Bobbie Fiori, who succeeded John Spieser after his retirement. Fiori previously served as assistant superintendent of curriculum and special services for Beavercreek City Schools and brings more than 20 years of experience in education leadership, including roles as a principal and school psychologist.

What's new for 2026-27

The Milford Board of Education approved several policy changes this spring that take effect when doors open Monday:

  • AI policy (EDEC): A new artificial intelligence policy, approved 5-0 on May 21, governs how students and staff may use AI tools.
  • Attendance policy (JED): Updated student absences and excuses rules, plus a new Online Day Plan, approved at the June 18 board meeting.
  • Cybersecurity: The board approved contracts with Securly ($7,344.96) and Paradigm Cyber Ventures ($7,500) to strengthen network safety for the coming year.
  • School Resource Officer: A renewed memorandum of understanding keeps an SRO in district buildings.

Meal prices stay flat: breakfast costs $2.25 at all levels, elementary lunch is $3.00, and middle and high school lunch runs $3.50 to $4.25. The board locked those prices in a unanimous May 21 vote.

The district's website still displays the 2025-26 bell schedule graphic, and school doors open 15 minutes before the posted start time. Families should check with their building for any 2026-27 updates.

Loveland already in session

Milford's Monday opening comes four days after neighboring Loveland City Schools began its own staggered start Aug. 13, as we reported Aug. 12.

Next board meeting: Aug. 20

The next regular Milford Board of Education meeting is Thursday, Aug. 20, three days after school opens. Board members Emily Chesnut, Emily Mason, Myra Powers, Mary Anne Will and Michael Wilson are scheduled to attend. Families who want to provide public comment must submit a request before the session begins.
