Loveland closed the Nisbet Park restrooms Monday, Sept. 28, for a renovation that will send trail users and park visitors to a temporary portable facility on Railroad Avenue.

The city announced on X that the restrooms will stay closed for the duration of construction. A portable restroom will be installed on Railroad Avenue for public use while the work is underway, the city said.

No timeline has been announced. The city did not say what the renovation will include, and no cost estimate or contractor has been named publicly.

Ongoing park overhaul

The restroom work is the latest piece of a years-long effort to upgrade Nisbet Park, which sits in historic downtown Loveland along the Little Miami Scenic Trail and the Little Miami River.

A master plan prepared in 2021 by KZF Design called for maintaining the restroom facilities and improving the surrounding plaza. The city has been carrying out that plan in stages.

The amphitheater replacement is the most visible project so far. Demolition of the old amphitheater began the week of May 11, according to the city's construction projects page, with the new structure expected to be finished this year.

New swings were installed near the playground in July, funded by an Ohio Department of Natural Resources NatureWorks Grant and a $10,000 donation from the Little Miami River Cleanup Association (LMRCA), the city said.

The Ohio Senate also earmarked $150,000 for the Nisbet Park Playground in Senate Bill 450, the state capital budget bill that passed the Ohio Senate in June, according to a press release from state Sen. Terry Johnson.

What trail users need to know

Nisbet Park draws steady foot and bike traffic as a trailhead along the Little Miami Scenic Trail. The park also offers shaded picnic areas, a playground, a gazebo and river access.

During the restroom closure, the temporary portable facility on Railroad Avenue is the nearest option for visitors.
