Milford fell 31-28 to Kings on Homecoming night Friday, Oct. 9, after a failed onside kick in the final minutes ended a furious Eagles comeback at Eagle Stadium.

Sophomore quarterback Aiden Wehrum and receiver Caylob Brasington connected early and often against Kings. Brasington hauled in a 50-yard catch to set up the game's first Milford score, and receiver Reed Deniston broke a tackle and found his way into the end zone to tie it 7-7 midway through the first quarter.

Wehrum found Brasington again for a touchdown late in the first quarter, putting Milford ahead 14-7. Then Wehrum broke loose for a 79-yard scramble to set up another drive. A screen pass from Wehrum to Brasington went for six more, and the Eagles led 21-7 with just under 10 minutes left in the first half.

Kings answered with an 9-yard rushing touchdown midway through the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 21-14. The Knights then outscored Milford in the second half to build a 31-21 lead.

Trailing by 10 in the fourth quarter, the Eagles mounted one last push. Receiver Cam Barbro reached up and pulled down a touchdown catch with 2:02 left, trimming the Kings lead to 31-28.

It wasn't enough.

Milford's ensuing onside kick attempt failed, and Kings ran out the clock. Milford Athletics posted the final on X: Knights 31, Eagles 28.

The loss drops head coach Tom Grippa's squad to 1-7 overall and 1-6 in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference, per MaxPreps. Milford has now lost six straight after a week two 47-7 win at Walnut Hills on Aug. 28.

Friday's three-point margin was the Eagles' closest game since a 43-41 loss to West Clermont on Sept. 18. Wehrum, who was named Blitz 5's Primetime Performer of the Week earlier this season, threw four touchdown passes and added the 90-yard run.

Milford hosts Little Miami in an ECC matchup at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16.
