Sycamore beat Oak Hills 36-35 on Friday, Oct. 9, ending a 23-game losing streak that stretched more than two years.
The Aviators hadn't won since Sept. 20, 2024, when they beat Colerain 14-7, according to WCPO. They went 1-10 that season, then 0-10 in 2025-26, and opened this fall with seven straight losses before traveling to Oak Hills for a Greater Miami Conference road game.
That road stretched 23 games. It ended in the final minute.
Quarterback Ty Thomas went 27-of-38 for 365 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in a career-high passing performance, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Receivers Zeontay Smoot and Trenton Meadows combined for 242 receiving yards and four touchdowns between them.
The go-ahead score came on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Zachary Branam to Smoot with less than 60 seconds remaining, followed by a successful two-point conversion attempt, according to the Enquirer.
Oak Hills entered the game ranked No. 17 in the WLWT/TriState Football Blitz 5 Top 25 with a 4-3 record and the No. 10 seed in Division I, Region 4. The loss spoiled the Highlanders' homecoming. It also pushed Oak Hills onto the playoff bubble, with games against league leaders Princeton and Lakota West still on the schedule.
Sycamore overcame two turnovers in a game that featured nearly 1,000 yards of total offense. The seven losses this season came by an average of more than 20 points: Kings 34-6, Mason 43-24, Hamilton 31-21, Princeton 56-7, Fairfield 42-19, Middletown 41-0 and Colerain 41-23, according to MaxPreps.
Friday's result was nothing like those blowouts.
The win moves Sycamore to 1-7 overall and 1-6 in the Greater Miami Conference. The Aviators host Lakota West on Friday, Oct. 16, then travel to Lakota East on Friday, Oct. 23.
