A new nursing school opening minutes from Loveland and Symmes Township is built for people who never fit the traditional college mold: working adults juggling jobs, career changers mid-stream and parents who put school on hold years ago.
Chamberlain University's Cincinnati campus, located at the Kenwood Collection in Sycamore Township, begins classes Monday, Aug. 31. The school charges no application fee, requires no prerequisite courses and offers evening and weekend scheduling with a hybrid blend of in-person and online learning. As of a June 23 announcement, the campus was accepting applications for its pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
"Cincinnati has the health systems and the need, with over 50,000 open healthcare jobs," said Priya Shastri, executive director of the Cincinnati campus. "In our region, where many programs are already at or near capacity, Chamberlain's program offers a three-year BSN pathway to graduate practice-ready nurses, with state-of-the-art simulation labs, and flexible scheduling for working adults and career changers."
Unlike traditional programs that admit students once per fall semester, Chamberlain offers multiple start dates throughout the year. Students begin nursing coursework immediately rather than spending semesters on general prerequisites first.
A shortage that hits close to home
The campus arrives as Greater Cincinnati faces a documented nursing crunch. The need is acute. Nearly 15% of nursing roles in the Cincinnati area go unfilled because of a shortage of graduates, according to Jack Miner, vice provost for enrollment management at the University of Cincinnati. Statewide, Ohio recorded more than 2,400 registered-nurse vacancies in 2025.
When a Greater Cincinnati hospital loses a bedside nurse, it takes roughly 76 days to fill that position, according to UC College of Nursing Dean Alicia Ribar.
Chamberlain's campus announcement cited an even broader figure: six open healthcare jobs for every healthcare graduate in the region.
What the campus looks like
The 32,006-square-foot facility occupies the third floor of the Kenwood Collection building at 5905 E. Galbraith Road, according to the Cincinnati Business Courier. Chamberlain is targeting an enrollment of 450 students and has equipped the space with simulation labs for hands-on clinical training. Students also complete direct patient-care clinicals at local health system partners.
The university supports students through Chamberlain Care, its model of support from enrollment through graduation and into job placement.
National footprint, local bet
Cincinnati is Chamberlain's 25th campus nationwide and its second in Ohio, joining a Columbus location. The university, a division of Covista (NYSE: CVSA), serves close to 40,000 students nationally and counts more than 155,000 alumni.
In 2025, the Carnegie Foundation designated Chamberlain an "Opportunity College and University," a classification for schools that expand access and deliver strong economic outcomes for graduates. The designation covers Chamberlain's Ohio campuses.
Covista has said it plans to open 10 to 15 additional Chamberlain campuses by fiscal 2029, targeting markets with the most acute nursing shortages.
Nearby option for Loveland-area residents
The Sycamore Township campus sits about 15 minutes from Loveland and Symmes Township along Interstate 275. Chamberlain offers multiple enrollment windows per year, with the next session start date available at chamberlain.edu.
