Milford sophomore quarterback Aiden Wehrum put up career numbers in a 43-41 loss to West Clermont on Friday, Sept. 18, accounting for all six Eagles touchdowns.
Wehrum completed 25 of 40 passes for a personal-best 374 yards and three touchdowns. He added three more scores on the ground, rushing for a career-high 84 yards. The performance earned him Eastern Cincinnati Conference Football Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 20, according to Milford Athletics.
Both were career highs.
Through his first four games this season, Wehrum had already compiled 21 total touchdowns. The West Clermont game pushed that total to 27 through five contests for head coach Tom Grippa's squad.
As we reported Sept. 19, West Clermont scored on the final play to steal the win.
Junior wide receiver Andrew Lau shared the football honor. Lau hauled in four catches for 90 receiving yards, both career highs, and scored his second touchdown of the season against West Clermont.
Fight punches ticket to districts
Golfer Ellie Fight earned ECC Girls Golf Athlete of the Week after a busy stretch. Fight shot an 82 at the OHSAA Sectionals at Waldon Ponds and qualified for Districts.
She also earned match medalist honors against West Clermont with a 40 and against Seton with a 39. Fight has been on Milford's varsity golf squad since her freshman year and earlier this season finished runner-up out of 96 golfers at the Dog Days of Summer tournament with a career-low 73.
Cross country Eagles shine in Louisville
Senior Lauren Johnson took ECC Girls Cross Country Athlete of the Week after helping the Milford girls team finish fourth at the Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational in Louisville on Saturday, Sept. 19. The Cincinnati Enquirer listed teammate Elle Campbell fourth individually with a time of 17:55.1.
Phineas List earned the boys cross country honor after running a lifetime personal record at the same invitational. List helped the Eagles boys team to a top-eight finish in what Milford's coaching staff called one of the most competitive races in the Midwest.
Milford football hosts Anderson in its next game. Fight advances to the OHSAA District tournament.
